  1. Cinnamon Sugar & Orange
    1. In a small bowl combine the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar, then set aside. Finely grate the zest from the orange into a separate small bowl and set aside as well.
1 piece orange, 0.8 tsp ground cinnamon, 1.5 tbsp granulated sugar
  2. Egg Mixture
    2. Crack the eggs into a shallow dish, add the milk, vanilla extract, and salt, then whisk until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
3 piece eggs, 0.5 cup milk, 0.5 tsp vanilla extract, 0.1 tsp fine salt
  3. Soak Bread
    3. Place a few slices of bread into the egg mixture in a single layer, let them soak briefly on each side until the surface is evenly coated but not falling apart, then transfer to a plate while you heat the pan.
    8 slice whole-wheat sandwich bread
  4. Pan Fry Toast
    4. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, add half of the butter and a little neutral oil, and swirl to coat the pan. Lay the soaked bread slices in the skillet and cook until golden brown and set in the center, then flip and cook the other side the same way. Repeat with the remaining butter, oil, and bread slices.
0.8 tbsp unsalted butter, 0.5 tbsp neutral oil
  5. Finish & Serve
    5. While the toast is still warm, sprinkle each slice lightly with the cinnamon sugar, then scatter orange zest over the top. Serve right away, optionally with orange wedges from the zested orange on the side.
1 piece orange, 1.5 tbsp granulated sugar
