    1. Let the butter sit at room temperature for 10 minutes until fully softened. Mince or finely grate the garlic cloves, then mash them together with the softened butter and salt in a small bowl until evenly combined.

    3. Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. No extra oil or butter is needed — the butter on the bread will do the work.
  4. 4. Place the bread slices buttered-side down in the skillet in a single layer. Press gently with a spatula. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the underside is deeply golden and crisp. Flip and cook the plain side for 1 minute just to warm through. Work in batches if needed.
  5. 5. Transfer to a plate and serve immediately while hot and crisp.
