  1. Pasta Preparation
    1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the short pasta, and cook until just shy of al dente according to package directions.

    3. In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat, then sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and whisk until smooth and foamy.

  4. 4. Slowly whisk in the whole milk a little at a time, stirring constantly to avoid lumps, and cook until the sauce thickens enough to lightly coat the back of a spoon.
